Press Club foundation day celebrated

The 40th Manipur Press Club Foundation Day was celebrated yesterday at the Press Club premises, Major Khul.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Lokeshwar said that the Press Club foundation day is a pan-Manipur event as the venue is used by all communities of the State.
He also said that the present status of the Press Club is the result of the indefatigable efforts of veteran journalists.
Stressing the role of media, Th Shyamkumar said the realisation of Manipur as Sanaleibak would not be possible without the media.
He urged all concerned to contribute their mite towards building a developed society for posterity.
Delivering a speech as the guest of honour, Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh said that it was a matter of pride that the State has produced journalists at the National as well as international level.
He conveyed his desire to groom new and budding talents in the field of journalism by extending cooperation.
Dr Ratankumar further stressed the need to maintain and uphold professionalism by media practitioners.
AMWJU president W Shamjai expressed regret that disturbances are often caused to media practitioners of the State, who are serving the society rain or shine.
Shamjai further urged media persons to discharge duties sincerely while also urging all concerned to extend cooperation to the media persons.
State scribes who participated in the recent NE Journalists' Sports Meet at Guwahati were also felicitated during the function.
