Imphal, June 06 2020:
It was a day of gloom for a family belonging to a village in Churachandpur district as there was no opportunity to the family members to be together and share the grief and pain after a daughter and a sister passed away.
Pall of gloom descended on the village as it geared up to receive a dead body to be flown from Delhi yesterday.
Boikim, a 33 year-old lady working as a nurse in a private clinic in Delhi reportedly died of cervical disc prolapsed on June 3 morning at a Govt hospital in Delhi.
It took two days to arrange the necessary papers to fly the body till her native village of Bunglon, some 30 kms north of Churachandpur DHQs within the same district.
The tragedy began when one of her brothers, on hearing the news that she was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state, went to Delhi on June 2 to attend to her.
He was fully aware of the SOPs for travelers during this lockdown period.
But with little choice left, he flew to Delhi to attend to his dying sister at the hospital.
The lady breathed her last around 3 am of June 3 .
The family insisted the dead body be brought home so that they can at least perform the last rites since several years have separated them.
At the same time, the mother of the deceased, who went to Tripura to stay a while with one of her sons before the Nation-wide lockdown was imposed, came by road with the hope of staying with other family members during the trying time.
On reaching Churachandpur on June 4 via Jiribam, she, along with her son who accompanied her was quarantined at a school at Bethel, CCpur.
The body was brought to Imphal via an Indigo flight yesterday morning.
On reaching the airport, the deceased's brother who took the body from Delhi was quarantined at Imphal.
Volunteers of CSOs and local youth club, wearing full PPE gear, took the body from the airport to the village.
On the other hand, the mother, who along with her son, at a community quarantine centre in Churachandpur was granted permission to attend the condolence/funeral service of her daughter for a brief span of five minutes by the SDO concerned, who was in-charge of the QC .
After ensuring that the mother-son duo return to their QC within the stipulated time and other SOPs are strictly adhered to, the SDO sent them to pay their last respect to their daughter/sister in a specially arranged ambulance.
As instructed, the mother-son duo were taken straight to the village cemetery where the coffin was kept waiting for them.
After clearing the area of mourners (comprising of close relatives only), the duo were allowed to pay their last respect for just about five minutes.
She broke down as the volunteers helped her reach near the coffin.
Just after that, the mother-son duo were made to board the ambulance and returned to their QC .
One of the brothers is now quarantined at Imphal while another brother and his mother are at a CQC in Churachandpur town as per protocols.
As evident, mourners were shedding tears not only for the dead, but more for the tragedy that befell the family as they could not be together at the time of bereavement.
