Special mechanism to check rights violation mooted

The Joint Committee on Crime Against Humanity has geared up to place a demand before the Government to evolve a special mechanism in order to check and control all forms of human rights violation.
A mass rally cum public meeting was held at Patsoi in Imphal West district demanding a special mechanism for checking all kinds of human rights violation including rape, murder, child trafficking etc.
The mass rally cum public meeting was organised by the Joint Committee on Crime Against Humanity which comprises of Conflict Widow Forum, Self Support Group, Christian Network of Positive People, Domestic Violence Survivors Group, Village Women Coordinating Committee and Applied Bio-tech Farmers' Club of Maklang.
The meeting adopted several resolutions, the foremost being establishment of the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights in order to check violation of child rights.

The other resolutions were in the forms of demands which included revival of Manipur State Human Rights Commission, abolition of AFSPA, full implementation of the Right to Education Act in Manipur, punishment of all the culprits involved in different kinds of human rights violation, devising special measures to check racial discrimination of North Eastern people in other parts of India and tracing the whereabouts of Sapam Chaoba who disappeared since October 13 last year.
Later, a memorandum highlighting all these demands and other issues like rape of 11 women in Manipur between January and April this year, rape an murder of two women, murder of Loitam Richard and disappearance of Sapam Chaoba was faxed to President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil.
Copies of the same memorandum were also dispatched to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat and Chief Minister O Ibobi.
