Kangpokpi, October 04 2020:
Decrying the alleged sinister design of the BJP led Government over the disputed site of National Sports University at L Tangnaum village (Haraothel), a total bandh has been announced by CSOs of Kangpokpi from 1 pm of October 5 till midnight of October 10 .
The decision was taken in a late joint meeting of all the civil society organizations of Kangpokpi district including KWU Sadar Hills, KTC, KWWO, KYU, etc.
under the aegis of KSO Sadar Hills and endorsed by Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district.
The mattewr has already been put up to KSO-GHQs, all branches of KSO, Kuki Inpi Manipur, ATSUM and tribal organizations in the State.
All vehicular movements, business establishments, functioning of all Government institutions will be closed during the total bandh in the district.
According to resolutions adopted during the joint meeting, only emergency service such as medical, media, etc will be exempted from the purview of the bandh while cautioning that violators will bear their own responsibilities.
It may be mentioned that demarcation of the NSU campus at L Tangnaum village (Haraothel) in Kangpokpi district is on since yesterday.
KSO Sadar Hills president Thangminlen Kipgen said that the total bandh is a stand against the repeated efforts of the State Government to encroach the land of Haraothel in the name of development without accommodating the sentiments of the tribal people.
The total bandh is people's bandh, he added.
How can Imphal West district administration claim the entire proposed NSU site to be under Imphal West district when the district boundary committee appointed by the State Government is yet to finalise its finding ?, questioned the KSO leader.
Thangminlen also questioned why the State Government is ignoring the pending case at the Court of National Commission for Scheduled Tribe at New Delhi ? .
Why is the State Government ignoring its promise to conduct NSU site demarcation in the presence of both Imphal West and Kangpokpi district administration, he further asked.
The KSO Sadar Hills also questioned the silence of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council on the current issue when they have already identified the disputed site to be under the administration of SHADC.
Thangminlen Kipgen maintained "we neither want shifting of the National Sports University nor oppose the construction and demarcation of the site, it is the sinister attitude of state Government to bulldoze the plan without proper and legitimate process and ignoring the sentiments of the tribal people that we are against" .
The State Government must resolve the issue amicably by accommodating the sentiments of all stakeholders over the issue, he added.
The demands of the public are to declare the current illegitimate demarcation as null and void, constitute a proper legitimate demarcation committee, publicize the findings of the District Boundary Commission first before conducting the demarcation.
It also appealed the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur and other tribal organizations to render all possible support and cooperation in its movement.
