Imphal, October 02 2019:
Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that if one thinks or speaks of doing a thing but acts and does another, then it will not be able to bring any solution for either the country or the State.
Speaking to media persons during the observance of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Congress Bhawan (BT Road) today under the aegis of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), the ex CM narrated that Mahatma Gandhi was strongly against violence and hatred among the people as it would not bring any development and tranquillity in the society and in the world as a whole.
His non violence even proved to be the force that defeated the British, he said adding that in recognition of the power of non violence propagated by Mahatma Gandhi, UNO observes today (October 2) all over the world as International Day of Non Violence.
Ibobi continued that Ma-hatma Gandhi was against one religion or one language for all and claimed that he was assassinated because others knew they would not get what they want if he lived.
If and only when his visions, ideologies and beliefs are followed by the people, peace and harmony will reign in the land, he added.
Ibobi said that the Congress party was formed as a platform to face the British under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and added that the Congress is like a big family.
Stating that the Congress ideologies and principles are loved by many and respected by numerous leaders, he opined that a Government or an authority which rules with an iron fist and through use of force will not last long.
On the other hand, MPCC president and CWC Member Gaikhangam said that following the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi and adhering to his ideologies is the responsibility of all.
He continued that it was Mahatma Gandhi's belief that that true peace can be brought about only with non violence and as such the whole world is observing today as International Day of Non Violence.
Gaikhangam then claimed that it is indeed disappointing that some are trying to discredit the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and his ideologies and added that the history of the country is the history of the Congress party.
As a part of the event, Congress leaders, legislators, workers paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the complex.
A rally was also carried out from the complex upto MG Avenue where the participants paid similar tributes to the statue of Gandhi located at the area.
