Matam Eshei Numit observed

As in previous years, Manipur Matam Eshei Numit (Manipuri Modern Song Day) was observed under the aegis of Apunba Matam Eshei Kanglup (AMMIK), Manipur at JN Manipur Dance Academy here today along with presentation of Lifetime Achievement Award to Padmashree Aribam Shyam Sharma.
A documentary film on the life and works of Padmashree Aribam Shyam Sharma was also screened at the occasion.
AMMIK has been observing September 30 every year as Manipur Matam Eshei Numit in commemoration of the first performance of Narasingha, the first Manipuri drama, on this day in 1925 .
Before that all the dramas were performed and the songs sung in Bengali.
Today's observance function was graced by the presence of Commissioner of Arts and Culture, Government of Manipur RK Nimai Singh as chief guest and president of AMMIK Prof Jodha Chandra Sanasam as functional president.
Prizes of the grand finale of the Best of AMMIK, 2011 competition were distributed at the occasion.
Brahmacharimayum Rojee Devi, Ningombam Tomba and Athokpam Sunan got the first, second and third prizes of the competition in the best lyricist section.
They were respectively awarded a cash reward of Rs 6000, Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 with one medal, memento and citation each.
For the Best singer, Martin Ngangom won the first prize of Rs 10,000, Ch Sangeeta won the second prize of Rs 7,000 while Sapana Laishram won the third prize of Rs 5000 .
They were also honoured with one memento and certificate each.
For the best composer, G Surchandra Sharma, S Subhashchandra Singh and A Gopeshwor received the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of Rs 6000, Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 respectively along with one medal, memento and citation each.
'Eshei', a journal of AMMIK was also released by the chief guest to mark the occasion.
