Imphal, January 30 2020:
Reacting to the "Imphal Accord" signed between the KNO and Nagaland-based Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) on January 10, the COCOMI (Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity) has alleged that the accord has undercurrents which can lead to disinte-gration of the State even though it looks friendly and harmless on the outside.
The accord undermines other communities living together in the State, alleged the COCOMI in a statement today.
"The most crucial issue at hand is our failure to understand ourselves and this has resulted in trust deficit among the communities", the COCOMI said.
The COCOMI said that all issues concerning the State should be resolved amicably in consultation with all stakeholders.
In line with the changes brought by time, inter-community relationship may be reviewed and revamped and this should done through peaceful dialogue among all the communities living together in the State.
But surrendering one's own responsibilities to outsiders evokes a number of serious questions, it remarked before asking how long the particular group could be friends with outsiders when they cannot be friendly to the communities living together with them in the State.
The Government of India should not amend or extend any Act or introduce any Bill that may affect the State's identity and socio-political setup, said COCOMI.
It also urged the Government and all groups concerned to tread carefully by taking into account the ugly consequences that may arise out of decisions which lack concurrence of the people of Manipur.
