The oil depot being constructed at Malom, Imphal West has clearly missed its date of completion.
The Indian Oil Corporation's depot of capacity 21975 Klswas planned to be commissioned in September 2015 .
The Malom depot was supposed to get mechanical completion certificate in July last year and it should be stocked with petrol, diesel and kerosene within the next two months before it was commissioned in September.
The depot have three units and their total capacity is 21975 KLs Unit wise capac ity of the depot is 5124 Kls for petrol, 11796 Kls for diesel and 5055 Kls for kerosene.
IOC's Chingmeirong depot has total capacity of just 6709 Kls and its unit-wise capacity is 840 Kls for petrol, 3341 Kls for diesel and 2524 Kls for kerosene.
According to information received from the IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office, no one is sure when would the Malom oil depot be commissioned.
Nonetheless, a team of the Oil Industry Safety Directorate would inspect the depot for safety standard next month.
Based on the recommendations of the team, certain changes may be made to the depot.
After the necessary changes are made, the depot would be stocked up over a period of two month .
Stocking the new depot may take more than two months if there are bandhs and/or blockades.
As stated earlier, the depot would be fed by rail once the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway project is completed.
Until the project is completed, the depot would function as a road-fed depot, said the source.
