Imphal, August 26 2011:
Seeking rectifications to the various cases of manipulations and violation of official norms and procedures with respect to Ukhrul district, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long have submitted a memorandum to the Governor with copies to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and DoNER Minister.
Giving details of their grievances, TKS and TMNL in the memorandum alleged discrimination against tribal officers by the State Government.
Highlighting the needs and aspirations of the people of Ukhrul, the two organisations urged that a centre for Teachers Eligibility Test be opened in Ukhrul district, decentralisation of power and function to all offices and departments to the district level officers in Ukhrul, to update the reservation policy of the State vis-a-vis the census statistical data in association with tribal representatives.
The two organisations further sought a fully functional district transport office in the district headquarters and also highlighted the manner in which some Government Departments are functioning.
Seeking action, the memorandum alleged the absence of staff of Minor Irrigation with the exception of only one staff, absence of staff at the PWD office in the district with the exception of only two staff, total collapse and failure in operational activities of the ITI office in Ukhrul.
Upgradation of machinery, equipment and staff strength of all the offices that come under the Medical office of the district was also sought.
The memorandum also pointed out that the existing Government schools in the district are understaffed while many schools in the valley areas are overstaffed.
SSP statement decried : The TKS and the TMNL have strongly condemned the claims made by the SSP of Imphal West with regard to the flat denial that Leishiwon was assaulted.
In a statement, the two organisations said that their representatives had visited the lady and saw tell tale signs of being beaten up severely.
If the SSP was a responsible officer, he should have visited the lady and verified the fact said the TKS and TMNL in a statement.
