In a tragic accident, two people have been killed in Yairipok Bamon Leikai under Yairipok police station of Thoubal district after a high tension power line snapped and fell over domestic power line.
A police source informed that an HT power line got snapped and one of its end fell near a power transformer at Yairipok Bamon Leikai at about 9.30.This resulted in passage of high voltage current in domestic power lines fed by the transformer.
The high voltage current caused sparks in an electric socket used for plugging in power line of a refrigerator inside the shop of Takhellambam Bijen (33) .
As Bijen tried to unplug the refrigerator's power line, he got shocked and was partially burnt.
Even as he was immediately rushed to Yairipok Community Health Centre, Bijen succumbed to the injuries.
Under similar circumstances at the same time, Md Fazal (18) tried to unplug his mobile phone charger as electric sparks were seen in the socket.
But he too got shocked and electrocuted.
Doctors of the same CHC declared that Md Fazal was brought dead.
Both the corpses have been handed over to family members after post mortem at JNIMS.
