20 MT of organic pineapple exported to Dubai

Imphal, July 25 2022:
For the first time, 20 metric tonne (MT) of fresh and ripe organic pineapple has been exported to Dubai on Monday.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation minister Letpao Haokip flagged off the consignment from the gate of the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation near Sanjenthong on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Letpao Haokip informed that the pineapples were produced under Organic Manipur brand by different FPCs including Thayong Organic Producers' Company Limited Imphal East, Lolhoumee Organic Producers' Company Limited Churachandpur, Kaipai Organic Producers' Company Limited Churachandpur, Khuga Hills Organic Producers' Company Limited Churachandpur, Than Than Organic Producers' Company Limited & Khawiju Organic Producers' Company Limited Kangpokpi.
Thayong Organic Producers' Company Limited is the exporter and the consignment will be marketed by Dubai based Grand Hyper Market.
The government is providing support to the organic farmers in various stages up to market linkage in order to improve the socio-economic condition of the farmers.
Apart from pineapple, the department is also exporting organic crops with high profits.
Moreover, the department is also implementing
various schemes for the organic farmers of the hill districts, he said.
The minister further said that the government is encouraging terrace farming instead of jhum and shifting cultivation to conserve forest cover and prevent natural calamities due to deforestation activities.
Benefits under Ujjwala Scheme are also being provided to poor families to discourage deforestation for fuel, he added.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation principal secretary P Vaiphei, director Honey Chara, joint director and Manipur Organic Mission Agency project director K Debdutta Sharma and other officials of MOMA also attended the flagging off ceremony.
The export of organic pineapple was facilitated by MOMA under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region and with financial support from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) .
The pineapples will be transported up to Guwahati in two refrigerated trucks of Guwahati-based Salt Range Supply Chain Solutions.
From there JSB Cargo Movers, Delhi will take the consignment to Mumbai and then to Jebel Ali port of Dubai through sea route.
