Under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India, Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandel launched the National Youth Policy 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan in a function heald at Chandel indoor stadium today.
Additional Deputy Commissioner LN Kashung and United College Principal MB Thumdang were the chief guest and president of the function respectively, said a press release.
Earlier, a mass youth rally was flagged off by Y Romio, Village Chief of Chandolpokpi village from the DC Office complex, Chandel to indoor stadium, Chandel headquarters.
More than 500 youth leaders, school and college students, teachers and officials participated in the rally.
Chandel ADC LN Kashung said that the youth contribute 34 percent of India's Gross National Income who account for 27.5 percent of India's population.
In his key note address, District Youth Coordinator, W Ibohal said that the National Youth Policy 2014 is a holistic vision for the youth of India enabling India's youth to realise their dreams.
The National Youth Policy aims at achieving five key objectives across 11 priority areas for youth development.
He added that creating a protective workforce (education, entrepreneurship, employment and skill development), developing a strong and healthy generation (health and healthy lifestyle, sports), instilling social values and promoting community service, facilitating participation and civic engagement, supporting youth at risk and creating equitable opportunity for all are the key objectives of the policy.
BD Thumdal said that the youth are the real asset of the Nation and they would become leader of the future India.
They should stay away from unwanted intoxicants which spoil life and character, he added.
