Imphal, November 23 2016:
Asserting that Tamenglong district has been left to its own peril, former MLA of Tamenglong Assembly Constituency, Khangthuamang Panmei today claimed that though the district is home of not only the Deputy Chief Minister but also home of the vice chairperson of the Hill Areas Committee and Congress MLAs, there is nothing to suggest that there is a semblance of administration in the district.
The suffering of the people has reached the zenith, he claimed and underlined that an egg is being sold at Rs 11.50 p today.
Speaking to reporters at the office of the State BJP today, the former MLA said that due to vast misuse of Centrally sponsored schemes and funds released under the State resources, all developmental activities have come to a grinding halt.
The situation is worse in the interior areas, he added.
No quality is maintained in any of the works executed in the district.
The district administration has been left paralysed due to all the wrong doings, he alleged and added that all these have eroded the people's trust and faith in the Congress Government.
Khangthuamang Panmei, who is an inspiring BJP candidate in the forthcoming Assembly election, said that all the ills in the district can be addressed to only when a BJP Government comes to power in the State.
The BJP has been able to win the confidence of the people, he claimed and added that if elected the BJP Government will leave no stone unturned to improve road communication in the district.
Picking holes in the administration of the Congress Government, the former MLA said that the Mini-Secretariat constructed at the district headquarters at a cost of about Rs 36 crore was inaugurated on November 3, 2011 by then Union Minister P Chidambaram.
Even after a lapse of more than five years since the inauguration, no official has started working from the said Mini-Secretariat, he added.
On inquiry the standard reply is always, 'the building of the Mini-Secretariat needs major overhauling and only after that can the officials shift there,' added Panmei.
The former MLA alleged that though tender has been floated and the work to construct the Tamenglong- Khongsang road with Rs 23 crore under the National Highway Infrastructure Development has been awarded to a firm, the work is yet to take off.
About 39.5 kms stretch of the highway has today been turned into a big ditch with no vehicles able to ply through, he added.
So pathetic is the road condition that today it takes three days for a vehicle to travel from Khongsang to Tamenglong district headquarters, said the former MLA and added that an egg at the district now costs Rs 11.50 p .
Despite this, the Government has turned a blind eye to the pathetic condition of the district, he added.
Even though Rs 146.72 crore has been sanctioned under the NEC to construct the Tamei-Tamenglong road and Tamei-Kangpokpi road, nothing has been done, even though the money has been withdrawn, alleged Panmei.
Moreover though the fund of Rs 1.5 crore sanctioned for constructing the Tamenglong-Halflong road in 2012-2013 has been misappropriated, the Congress Government has not deemed it fit to take up any action, added the aspiring BJP candidate.
Panmei further alleged that construction work of the Mini Sports complex has been left incomplete and the same is the case with the work of the 50 bedded district hospital, Kendriya Vidyalaya building, and FCI building since the Government has failed to allocate the needed land.
Rice which should be given to the people at Rs 3 per Kg under the NFSA, is today being given at Rs 10 per Kg, he alleged.
