Imphal, August 23 2020:
The Dhanamanjuri College of Science Teachers' Association (DMCOSTA ) has appealed to the State Government to reconsider the Memorandum issued on August 10 extending the provisions of the CCS (Conduct) Rules to the college teachers.
DMCOSTA in a statement said "understandably even though the Government might have its own reasons and justification for issuing such a Memorandum, this act of the Government seemingly has sent a wrong message across the teaching community".
"This has caused confusion among the teachers and the teachers are led to think that the core values of Higher Education like critical assessment, analytical thinking, academic freedom etc are negated and threatened.
Indeed we feel like working in a very restrictive and suffocating environment" .
"We sincerely think that this will not be good for the cause of Higher Education in the long run," it said.
Further, DMCOSTA has lauded the State Government for according Cabinet approval to the long standing demands of the college teachers regarding the implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 .
"Even though a little late, this act of the Government is indeed a welcome step and a much needed boost to the college teachers of Manipur who are otherwise a disheartened and demoralised lot," it said.
DMCOSTA urged the Government to issue the relevant order of the implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 at an earliest possible date.
"We do hope that the Government will be considerate and sympathetic enough to positively respond to this call of the college teachers' community," it added.
DMCOSTA also lauded the Education Minister stating that he has been working tirelessly to spread awareness of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to all stakeholders and urging them to study and discuss the policy document and propose constructive suggestions so that the new policy is implemented in our State in the most effective and efficient way.
