Sadar Hills civil society organizations including Kuki Inpi, Sadar Hills, KSO, Sadar Hills, TSA, Sadar Hills and KWU, Sadar Hills today expressed deep concern over the deplorable road condition of National Highways in the State.
Speaking to media persons this evening at Kangpokpi, Lamcha Chongloi, information secretary, Sadar Hills CSOs said that the condition of the National Highways is a matter of great concern for the public of Manipur.
"PWD and BRO may have numerous reasons to explain why the National Highways in the State do not resemble those in other States.
However, for general public, the foremost reason behind the miserable road condition of the National Highways in the State is the improper execution of construction works.
Second is the lack of proper maintenance of the highways," Lamcha said.

It is evidently visible to the public that the PWD or BRO is not taking up prompt action to mend the potholes at the initial stage.
He said that the execution of any sanctioned work has been observed and experienced by all.
Qualitative as well as quantitative aspects have not been stringently adhered to during implementation of any work under PWD, BRO and PMGSY in any parts of the State.
Sadar Hills CSOs in its endeavour to improve the condition of roads in the State has been taking up the matter very seriously and it noticed that the low rates quoted by the contractors at the time of tender is one of the major factors for the improper execution of work.
Lamcha appealed to the prospective tenderers of the State National Highways not to unreasonably quote low rates and also urged the engineers of PWD/BRO to properly supervise the work irrespective of the rates quoted by the contractors.
While resolving to firmly supervise any new work taken up on the National Highways, CSOs of Sadar Hills also cautioned that any contractor who obtains any construction work at low tender rates will not be allowed to execute the work.
