An IRB jawan and a woman suffered minor injuries after clashes broke out between personnel of 4th IRB stationed in BL Junior High School and unidentified persons at charhajare area this evening.
According to information culled from the incident spot, the IRB personnel led by its Assistant Commandant M Kipgen rushed to an Upper Charharjare village after residents reported unidentified persons setting ablaze a cowshed belonging to one Kishanath Batwal at around 6.45 pm.
Tension had been prevailing in the area after houses were burnt in the runup to panchayat elections.
On hearing rushing footsteps outside their house, the Batwal family enquired only to see their cowshed in blaze.
with the matter reported to the nearest security post the IRB personnel reached the incident spot located on the hill slope west of the Imphal-Dimapur highway.
Apart from stone pelting by the unidentified arsonists from the higher range of the hill slope the IRB men were reported engaged in a gun-battle that lasted for about 10 minutes.
While there is no report of any casualty or injury on the side of the arsonist, one IRB jawan identified as Hepuni Paotei (35) sustained wound on the forehead area.
As Hepuni is out of danger, he was discharged after first aid at RIMS Hospital.
One woman, whose identity could not be confirmed was also hurt in stone pelting.
