Imphal, December 20 2019:
Rebuffing the allegations made by a labour union/association of FCI & FCS, the Workers Union Manipur (WUM) has clarified that there were no malpractices involved in acquiring a labour task from the contractor, NR Mathai Enterprises.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Workers Union Manipur president Waikhom Anand Meitei narrated that NR Mathai Enterprises, on November 23, issued an advertisement seeking labourers for carrying 50 kg of rice.
Following this, WUM applied for the work on November 25, he said while claiming that the work was handed over to WUM by the said contractor as no applications were submitted by any other unions/associations.
As such, WUM started the work from December 4, he added.
A labour union/association which was already engaged in FCI & FCS had made allegations that there were malpractices involved in the process of acquiring the labour work, which is false and baseless, he clarified.
Maintaining that the false allegations were made to tarnish the image of WUM, he further stated that WUM followed the genuine and proper process in applying for the work and acquired the work.
Following the advertisement of NR Mathai Enterprises, a total of 113 labourers are working in FCI.
He continued that WUM was first formed in 2007 while adding that it has carried out several works/projects like Clean Imphal project and at many health institutes and by following the guidelines of the Government.
Conveying that there are more than 300 members in WUM, Anand said that the members of the union are not appointed in a simple way and added that the union was not formed just by a bunch of labourers.
He appealed to all the people not to tarnish the image of the union.
