CPI protests fuel price hike

Imphal, June 20 2020:
As a part of the Nationwide protest against frequent hiking of petrol and diesel prices, CPI Manipur State Council staged a protest today at Irabot Bhavan here.
The CPI State unit, in a statement, said that the protest was staged in denunciation of the policy of Narendra Modi led Government which allows oil companies to control and fix oil prices almost on every day basis.
A meeting was convened as a part of the protest with strict observance of physical distancing norms, the statement said.
The statement quoted Secretary, CPI Manipur State Council L Sotinkumar as saying, "COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown induced by the same have been affecting many lives specially lower and middle class citizens.
Hiking petrol and diesel prices while people are still facing a survival threat and when the prices of crude oil are falling, is nothing but an open and widespread looting done with full knowledge of the Central Government" .
Sotinkumar also demanded the Modi led Government to cancel the permission awarded to oil marketing companies to fix prices of diesel and petrol at will and asked to revert back to the price fixing policy which was in place till 2017 .
The protest meeting was presided by secretariat member of the party, A Lala Singh, it continued while adding that assistant secretaries, Kh Surchandra and M Joykumar Luwang also attended the protest.
