Imphal, May 19 2011:
The family members of late Dr Thingnam Kishan have decided to file a defamation case against Mehnaz Nasreen, a journalist, who published an allegedly false report demeaning the image of the bereaved family, in the Delhi-based news magazine The Sunday Indian under the headline 'Married to Misfortune' in its May 9-15 edition.
Addressing a press conference at the residence of late Dr Kishan at Kangjabi today evening, Thingnam Ongbi Romita, wife of the murdered MCS officer, said that she and her family have been hurt by the false and demeaning report filed by Mehnaz Nasreen.
Romita informed that some time back Mehnaz Nasreen had approached her for information on her late husband through Mobile SMS which she turned down.
Inspite of that, Mehnaz went ahead carrying a baseless and false report on her late husband.
Pointing out that Mehnaz has written that justice has been delivered and she was compensated with a Civil Service post by the Government, and that 'other widows in Manipur, however, are not as lucky', Romita said that she may be honoured with the post but this cannot compensate for the loss of her husband and she wants justice.
In the said report, the photograph of Fatima Bibi has also been published in place Romita's.Thingnam Roshan, brother of late Dr Kishan, said that the family has been fighting for justice and wrong reports that would add to their grievances will be opposed.
He informed that hearings of the case is going on in the court of Special Judge CBI, Patiala House, New Delhi wherein 11 witnesses have been examined so far, and the next hearing is scheduled on May 25 to 27 .
Hearing on another case filed against former Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pal is also ongoing at Gauhati High Court.
