SBI felicitates CWG gold medalist Mirabai

Imphal, August 17 2022: The State Bank of India (SBI) today felicitated ace weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who clinched gold medal at the recent Commonwealth Games held at Birmingham.

A team of SBI team led by General Manager of its Mumbai Corporate Office Dr Prakash Chand Saboo went to the residence of the Olympic silver medallist at Nongpok Kakching in Lamlai AC and felicitated her for giving an exceptional performance at Birmingham and bringing laurel to the country.

The SBI team gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh, a bouquet and a shawl to Mirabai.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Prakash said that the struggle of Mirabai to become a world class athlete is inspiring as she overcame all odds to achieve her dream and won medals at many international events, including the Olympics.

Saying that Mirabai is a very simple and humble person as she didn't forget those who helped her during her training period, specially the truckers who took her to Khuman Lampak routinely, he said that Mirabai is a Superhuman Woman and an inspiration to many youngsters.

Dr Prakash also said that SBI is happy to provide banking services to Mirabai.

He continued that SBI will consider opening its branch office near the residence of the Olympian by consulting with the department concerned.

Mirabai, on the other hand, said that she feels blessed to have received much love and support from the people and added that she will train harder to win more medals in future.

Saying that she was on vacation for only seven days but the vacation was extended to 15 as she wanted to meet all her supporters and well wishers,' Mirabai informed that she will leave for Patiala tomorrow to join a training session.
