Offices, schools major factors for traffic congestion in Imphal

Imphal, September 14 2016:
Some major areas of Imphal city which are highly congested are MG Avenue traffic junction and the one running in front of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC), PWD and LIC.
Vehicular traffic is literally choking the MG Avenue in front of Nirmalabas High School during school opening and closing hours.
Heavy traffic congestion on Kanglapat road from the traffic island of Kangla western gate to the LIC office is largely due to parking of vehicles on both sides of the road.
Passenger Tata Magic vans are also given parking spaces in front of IMC office thereby adding to the traffic congestion.

Sometimes the passenger vehicles are parked in two rows thereby occupying a considerable portion of the busy road.
A large number of vehicles are also parked in front of shops located below Siroy Lily hotel to the southern side of MG Avenue junction, moreover the adjoining footpaths are occupied by shops, and their merchandises thereby severely impeding traffic flow.
All the vehicles parked there do not belong to commuters nor shoppers.
Many of them belong to shop owners and salesmen.
Unlike those of commuters and shoppers, their vehicles are parked throughout the day just about 100 metres inside MG Avenue.
Police put up barricades and block half the road, and they are manned by two or three uniformed police personnel.
Vehicles are also parked to the northern side of MG Avenue junction in front of Adarsh Laboratory and MLA quarters.
It also causes traffic congestion sometimes, though not always.
On the other hand, car loan melas are held at busy MG Avenue in front of the SBI branch office every now and then.
Given the busy traffic congestion at MG Avenue, it remains questionable with whose permission the car loan melas are held there.
