State Joins World On World Blood Donor Day
Fittingly Healthy turn out at different centres

The World Blood Donor Day was observed today at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University with the theme 'Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood' .
The programme was jointly organised by Manipur State AIDS Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Manipur.
Twenty voluntary blood donors and organisations closely working for spreading awareness on blood donation were honoured during the programme.
Secretary of The Club 25 International Manipur, K Karnajit was presented the Health Minister's Shield award in recognition of the club's contribution of 235 units of blood from 235 blood donors in a single day.
A blood donation camp was also conducted by JNIMS and Shija Blood Banks as a part of the observance programme wherein 97 volunteers donated blood.
The voluntary blood donors today included students of MU, Shija Academy of Nursing, personnel of 13 BSF and general secretary of AITC Manipur Youth Wing, Bishwanath.

The observance programme was graced by Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof HNK Sharma; Project Director of MACS, Dr Sailesh Kumar Chaurasia and Director of RIMS, Prof S Sekharjit as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Head Professor of IHBT, RIMS Dr A Meinya Singh said the State's needs approximately 27,000 units of blood annually.
However, only around 21,000 units of blood are collected through Blood Banks at JNIMS, RIMS and Shija Blood Banks.
Strengthening of the State Blood Transfusion Council, inclusion of blood donation awareness in secondary school syllabus, creating political and media advocacy are the points suggested by Dr A Meinya in order to increase blood donation in the State.
