Imphal, April 14 2016 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has said that the student body would not allow any kind of recruitment examination in Manipur University to be conducted during the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof HNK Sarma.
This was stated by Nameirakpam Edison, general secretary of DESAM, during a press conference held at DESAM head office Keishampat.
He said that DESAM had already brought the wrongdoings of the Vice Chancellor to light.
In this regard, they have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to look into the matter seriously.
On April 3, the Manipur University authority tried to conduct a written examination for the recruitment of four Assistant Registrars despite the ban imposed by DESAM, he said.
Edison said that DESAM volunteers went inside the examination hall and prevented the MU authority from continuing the examination.
DESAM received a letter from MU Registrar RK Jotin inviting DESAM executives to hold talks the next day.
In their reply, DESAM set a condition before MU authority that a meeting must be held on April 11 and all the Deans of the varsity must be invited to the meeting to discuss the matter thoroughly.
On April 11, only two Deans were found present along with the VC and Registrar for the meeting.
Due to the absence of other Deans, the two sides decided to hold a meeting on April 14, Edison said.
However, only one Dean turned up for today's meeting as well, Edison said.
When DESAM team sought an explanation regarding the matter, the VC told them that attendance of all the Deans in the meeting is not necessary and they have no knowledge about the allegations levelled by DESAM against the VC.
Due to this alleged irresponsible reply, Edison said, the meeting ended without any solution.
Stating that DESAM would not allow any type of recruitment examination in Manipur University to be held, Edison urged the public to extend co-operation to root out corruption.
