120-hour Jiribam bandh ends

Imphal, October 13 2011:
The 120-hour Jiribam bandh called by Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) in pursuit of its demand for upgradation of the Sub-division to a full fledged district ended peacefully at 6 pm today, reports our Correspondent.
The bandh received a mixed response with shops, Government offices and educational institutions remained shut but more than thousand of goods laden vehicles passed through Jiribam and headed towards Imphal.
Bandh supporters burnt tyres and effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi and MLA Th Debendra during the bandh at several places.
Personnel of 22 Assam Rifles, police Commandos, Jiri police, 5th Manipur Rifles and VDF remained vigil throughout the bandh to thwart any untoward incident.
