CM assures health scheme for scribes

Imphal, May 13 2017:
Chief Minister N Biren has announced that the State Government will provide medical insurance scheme of up to Rs 1 lakh per year for journalists.
He made the announcement during an interaction programme held between him and media persons at Hotel Imphal yesterday.
CM Biren admitted that journalists of the State have been working day and night against all odds including threats from certain sections.
He maintained that the scheme is to be provided under the auspices of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Stating that news disseminated by print and elec- tronic media in the State reaches different parts of the country, he pointed out that news published in the State is mainly filled with incidents of violence and crime.
As such, tourists are reluctant to visit the State, he said, appealing to the media houses mainly print to include such news in inner pages.
The CM added that the interaction programme was organised in honour of the support extended by journalists to resolve the five-month economic blockade which was imposed by UNC and Churachandpur stalemate over the dead of nine persons.
The interaction programme was marked by a feast.
