In continued act of arson, unidentified miscreants set on fire the building of a Government High school at Langmeidong in Thoubal district last night destroying all its assets beyond redemption.
According to police report, some 5 to 6 unidentified persons who came in a Maruti Van at around 10 pm yesterday ignited the fire by using some inflammatory substances like petrol.
The entire school building including a hall and six class rooms and all other assets have been destroyed in the fire.
Benches and desks in the class rooms, one computer set, two monitors, laboratory equipments and other documents of the school were among the losses in the fire, the report added.
In protest against the incident, locals of Langmeidong blocked the road for some hours in the morning today.
The agitated locals informed that the school has been remaining shut following the class boycott agitation announced by three student bodies namely AMSU, MSF and KSA, over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident.
MLA E Dwijamani has inspected the damage caused to the school in last night's
act of arson.
