National seminar on Sanamahism

Under the joint aegis of Art and Culture Department and Sapam Hera Foundation, International Sanamahi Association (ISA) has kick started a two-day National seminar on Sanamahism at Manipur State Archives, Keishampat from today.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the seminar as the chief guest, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai said that Manipur is a State where people of different communities have been residing together.
As such, protection of the identity, culture and tradition of these communities is a must, she said.
The Minister said that although Sanamahi is worshipped in almost all the houses of Meitei people and some houses of Kabui community, it is not still known to many about the entire rituals and the right ways of praying.
As such, Meitei religious leaders and organisations still need to conduct seminars and workshops to impart knowledge on this aspect as well, Mirabai opined.
Saying that setting up of Cultural University by the State Government would make the task easy, the Minister said that the varsity would commence classes of five departments from the next month.
Presidency College former Principal Dr Ng Kangjia Mangang and Art and Culture Director Dr K Sushila graced the occasion as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Prof P Nabachandra moderated the seminar while Naoroibam Indramani, Dr Kh Gokulchandra, Dr N Birachandra and Dr S Lanchenba Meetei spoke as resource persons on the first day today.
