Senapati, August 09 2020:
The Mao Students' Union (MSU) has demanded the Government of Manipur on Sunday to set up an inquiry committee immediately to look into the alleged medical lapses which led to the death of A Mayili, tribunal general and former president of the Mao Students' Union.
"The Mao Students' Union is extremely distressed at the untimely demise of our tribunal general and former president A Mayili Charana due to lapses in medical treatment and lack of medical facilities in the district," alleged the Mao students' body.
According to the MSU, on the fateful morning of August 6, A Mayili met with "an accidental wrist slash injury" with a deep cut on the right hand for which he was taken to Sub-District Hospital, Mao where preliminary treatment was given.
However, he was referred to Imphal due to the severity of the injury and due to lack of medical expertise and lack of adequate facility to treat the patient, the Mao students' body further said.
"Meanwhile, the request for the hospital ambulance to transport the patient to Imphal was duly refused," the MSU also alleged.
It further said that through the arrangement of a private car, the patient proceeded towards Imphal, and whilst on the way he was taken to the District Hospital due to the deteriorating condition of the patient.
"However, due to lack of adequate medical facilities, the patient was again referred to Imphal after giving basic medical treatment.
A Mayili succumbed to his injuries on the way to Imphal due to heavy loss of blood," the MSU added.
"Therefore, we demand the Government of Manipur to set up an inquiry committee immediately to look into the medical lapses which led to the death of A Mayili", the student body demanded.
The MSU then said that it will launch an agitation if "the Government does not respond positively to its demand for which the Government shall be solely responsible for any eventuality" .
