Part-timers threaten stir

Part-time lecturers of Pettigrew College, Ukhrul have threatened to discontinue their service if the Government fails to redress their grievances before April 15 .
The demands of the part-time lecturers include revision of pay and regularisation of their service.
Talking to media persons today, the part-time lecturers said their grievances have been highlighted to the authority concerned many times.
The SPF Government had tabled the matter twice before the Assembly.
Despite getting approval for revision of the pay, no tangible process has been implemented towards this end, the part-timers lamented.
Pointing out that they have been suffering for the last 16-19 years, and knowing well that the step they decided would victimise the students and put their career at stake, the part-time lecturers said their patience has run out.
They warned that they would discontinue their service if the concerned authority fails to redress their grievances by April 15 .
Around 15 part time lecturers are engaged in Pettigrew College, Ukhrul.
Some of them were even made the Head of Department as there are no regular lecturers in some of the departments.
Part-time lecturers were remunerated with a pitiful sum ranging from Rs 4,500 to 8,000 per month.
