Imphal, February 09 2013 :
The Tribal Youth Council, Manipur has reiterated that all developmental projects for hill districts should be implemented through Manipur Tribal Development Corporation.
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, Spokesperson of TYC M Luikang Maram lamented that no developmental works have been taken up in the hill areas of the State even after more than 40 years of attaining Statehood.
He said people in the interior areas are still engaged in primitive hunting, jhum cultivation, and depend on forest produces for livelihood sustenance.
He also rued about the alleged absence of proper inter village road connectivity in the hill areas.
People living in the remote areas are devoid of development and advantage, Luikang said while emphasising that the valley and the hill should be equally developed.
Pointing out that the Autonomous District Councils were installed to develop the hill areas and the people from the grassroots, Luikang Maram lamented that the hill areas could not be developed through the ADCs as the members functioned from Imphal.
As such, the TYCM is demanding implementation of development works or projects through the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation, which is registered under the Company Act 1956 .
To this effect, the TYCM had submitted a memorandum to the Governor on October 26 last and subsequently to the Chief Minister on Feb 8 this year, he said.
Luikang further appealed the Government to reach the fund sanctioned for hill area development through the MTDC.
