The State today saw a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases with as many as 102 samples confirmed for the contagion.
The State's total COVID-19 tally has reached 296 at the time of filing this report.
With 58 patients recovered so far, the number of active cases stands at 238.After five samples were tested positive for COVID-19 at JNIMS last night, 63 more samples tested positive today with reports of 24 cases coming late in the evening today.
39 of the 63 individuals who tested positive at JNIMS earlier today, 34 belong to Bishnupur district, one each to Lilong, Imphal West and Kangpokpi, and two are residents of Senapati district.

The 34 residents of Bishnupur district who have been tested positive were staying in a quarantine centre opened at Moirang after they returned from Chennai by train.
34 other samples too tested positive for COVID-19 at RIMS with reports of 10 coming late in the evening.
Of the 24 who tested positive earlier, 18 are from Kakching, Ukhrul (2), Noney (1) and Kamjong (3) .
And out of the ten who tested positive late in the evening, nine are from Noney and one from Kamjong.
Meanwhile, six individuals who have been undergoing treatment at RIMS for COVID-19 tested negative today and they have been duly discharged.
The 37 people who tested positive at RIMS and JNIMS last night but whose travel could not be confirmed have turned out to be returnees from UP (2), Mumbai (9) and Delhi (26) .
On account of the rapid and sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.
Bishnupur district hospital has ceased all normal functions and the hospital's general ward has been converted into COVID-19 isolation ward.
Presently, 101 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at JNIMS, 79 at RIMS and 34 at Bishnupur district hospital.
