Zeliangrong Union (ZU), Assam, Manipur and Nagaland has refuted the allegations of Prof Gangmumei Kmaei and G Achung that the displaced people from Imphal valley now sheltered in various Naga inhabited area of Manipur and Nagaland are instigated by its president, general secretary and ex-MP Prof M Kamsom.
In a statement, the union said that about 85 per cent of the Zeliangrong people left the valley due to violent protests by Meiteis to the ceasefire extension and the resultant sense of insecurity, step motherly treatment of the Zeliangrong by the Government and for the solution of the long pending Naga cause.
It also said that it never issued order or statement for the exodus from Imphal.
Stating that the Zeliangrong United Club Association, Manipur Valley is the brain child of Kamei, the statement came down heavily on Kamei and his fellow leaders residing in Imphal saying they have no gut to speak.
They have been residing in the valley for selfish interests, it added.
The union also charged Kamei of playing with the lives and properties of the innocent Zeliangrong and instigating village authorities to impose heavy fines on villagers leaving home and deadline for return given.
It said Zeliangrong villages in Imphal did not turn up to a meeting called by the ZU (AMN) on August 8.
