Condemning the extension of the Naga ceasefire to Manipur Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra Clubs Coordinating Committee urged the Centre to withdraw the Naga ceasefire from Manipur and to pass a Bill in Parliament to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister of State for Home ID Swami yesterday the committee also demanded that the districts of Manipur should be reorganized on the basis of area and population rather than topography and ethnic groups to ensure peaceful co-existence.
It also demanded enforcement of the MLR and LR Act.
The committee expressed the apprehension that the extension of the ceasefire will lead to disintegration of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The committee in a meeting yesterday observed a two minute silence in honor of those died in the struggle for territorial integrity.
Five women organizations of Indo-Burma Road, Khabam, Kangjabi Leirak and All India Rural Women�s Upliftment Assn Manipur also submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister urging him to withdraw the ceasefire from Manipur.
The memorandum said that the attempt by the Government of India to bring peace has yielded a negative result.
Withdrawal of the cease-fire is necessary to bring a lasting peace in the North Eastern States.
It said that the Centre's decision has caused mistrust and disharmony among different communities in Manipur who are living peacefully since time immemorial.
The memorandum further said people have now lost faith in the administrative system because despite rallies and resolutions by the State Assembly against the extension of the cease-fire the Centre has decided to go ahead.
