Police rescue PRO from TRA cadres

Imphal West district police have rescued Public Relation Officer of Singhat AC MLA GS Haopu from the hands of Tribal Revo-lutionary Army (TRA) cadres during a daring operation conducted at a jungle in Kontam village of Senapati district at around 1.10 am today.
Under the supervision of Thokchom Vikramjit, Imphal West Additional SP (Operations), a strong police team and officers comprising of Soibam Sachidananda, Imphal West commando DSP and P Sanjoy, Imphal West commando OC rushed to Langol Spring Villa and carried out a search operation in the intervening night of May 6 and 7, said a source.
The operation was conducted acting on a specific intelligence input regarding the presence of the abductors, added the source.
During the operation, police arrested a TRA cadre identified as Letkhomang Kipgen alias Mangcha of Bongbal village, Chura-chandpur district from the residence of Thongmingou Kipgen s/o (L) Thongkholal Kipgen of Langol Spring Villa.
The police team recovered one mobile phone from Letkhomang's possession.
Letkhomang allegedly abducted GS Haopu's PRO P Thangsiangbiak alias Bibiak for ransom last month under the instruction of Douthanglen Kipgen alias Lelen alias John Hangshing, self styled president of TRA.
Acting on Letkhomang's disclosure, the same police team conducted another search operation in the jungle of Khengjong hill of Laikhot and Gamphaibung hill range.
Thangsiangbiak alias Bibiak was rescued from the captivity of TRA cadres from a jungle located near Kontam village in Senapati district.
On seeing the police team approaching towards them, the TRA cadres fled the area firing some rounds in the air.
The police team recovered one pistol and one Eco van (grey in colour) from the area.
The arrested TRA cadres and recovered items have been handed over to Imphal police station for further investigation, added the source.
It may be mentioned that leaders of different organisations of Churachandpur urged the Chief Minister to initiate strong measures to curb criminal activities yesterday.
Meanwhile, New-Selsi (Kontam) Village Authority has clarified that they know nothing about the incident as reported in some sections of the media.
Lauding the police commandos for rescuing the PRO, the Village Authority urged them to leave the innocent villagers alone without unnecessary intimidations.
It also urged the outfit concerned not to tarnish the integrity and reputation of the village.
