Stage set for Panchayat polls

Imphal, October 06 2017:
All polling and security personnel detailed for duty in the 5th General Panchayat election have reached their designated polling stations .
Police nodal officer DIG K Jayenta informed that stringent security measures have been put in place to thwart any untoward incident during the election .
Mobile police teams have also been formed to monitor the voting process .
Altogether 3,48,139 male voters and 3,68,691 female voters are eligible to exercise their right to adult franchise at 1520 polling stations spread Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Jiribam districts .
The State Election Commission has already nominated one election observer for each of these districts .
The total number of candidates contesting in the election against the total number of seats are 178 against 60 for Zilla Parishad, 446 against 158 for Pradhan and 2556 against 1118 for Ward Members .
Ballot papers of three colours namely pink for Zilla Parishad, yellow for Pradhan and white for Ward Member would be used in the election .
Votes will be counted on October 11 .
