Imphal, February 06:
Extortion demand and threat calls from UG groups are nothing new to the founder secretary of Little Master English School Moirangmayum Thoiba Singh.
But the sheer continued pressure has led him to come out on the streets in protest.
Led by him, the teachers of the school staged a sit-in-protest demonstration in front of the school today.
Students and their parents and a large number of local residents also participated in the demonstration.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest, Thoiba said that he has been receiving threat calls for the last 3 months from various UG groups.
'I have now come out because the future of my students are at stake', he said
He disclosed that a faction of a UG group has been demanding Rs 10 lakhs while another faction of the same outfit has served an extortion demand of Rs 5 lakhs.
Moreover, out of Rs 5 lakhs and mobile handsets (N-95) demanded by one UG group, Thoiba said that he has provided two handsets already.
His security guard identified as Robel was also allegedly beaten up by the armed persons and his Maruti car (MN01-8985) taken away.
The aggrieved educator explained that his main concern has been to impart quality education to the students who are the future pillars of the society and so charges minimum fee from the students.
The payment of salaries to 103 teaching and non-teaching staff of his school has been due as a result of these extortion demands and threat calls, he added.
