Imphal, September 05, 2013:
Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee (Lintoc), a conglomerate of four farmers' organisations has announced that various awareness programmes and events to commemorate the death as well as birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot would be held from September 26 till 31 at various places of the State.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today Committee (Lintoc) convenor Th Iboyaima said decision has been taken by All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA), Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM), Joint Students' Coordinating Committee (JSCC) and Loumee Shinmee Apunba Lup (Lousal) to jointly observe the anniversary functions of multi-faceted pioneer figure in the later part this month.
Conveying that decision to jointly observe the event was taken to uphold Lamyanba Irabot's firm belief in the principle of 'United we stand, divided we fall', Iboyaima said the commemorative event would begin with offering of floral tribute at the Pungdongbam Memorial park on September 21, the day Irabot launched the revolutionary campaign to free Manipur from adversary forces.
On September 25 a panel discussion on the life and contribution of Irabot to the Manipuri society would be held at a venue to be announced in the coming days, said the convenor adding that the next day Irabot's death anniversary would be observed at MDU Hall, a public gathering place developed by the pioneer figure.
While all these programmes would be preceded by widespread awareness campaigns, Irabot's birth anniversary would be celebrated at THAU ground, Thangmeiband on september 30, Iboyaima informed.
Regretting that since the last two decades State farmers have been enduring severe hardships owing to rapid shrinking of agricultural land, drying of natural water bodies/sources such as lakes and rivers, Iboyaima highlighted that afforestation activities in the catchment areas, particularly in the hills need to be accelerated to sustain livelihood.
Reminding that Irabot's vision of developing the agriculture sector should be implemented without any further delay, he also opined that a collective effort by the masses and the Government has become inevitable to save the future of Manipur and its people.
