Imphal, May 05 2020:
BJP Thangmeiband Mandal has expressed strong concern over non-distribution of rice to NFSA beneficiaries of the Assembly segment for the month of March this year.
Expressing strong suspicions that the rice meant for distribution in Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency (AC) in wake of the ongoing lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic might have been swindled, co-convenor of Thangmeiband COVID-19 team Moirangthem Meghachandra has urged the Chief Minister to direct Vigilance Department to investigate into the matter.
In a presser held today at the office of BJP Thangmeiband Mandal, Moirangthem Meghachandra stated that non locals residing under Ward No 25 of the Assembly segment are yet to receive their due share of rice while adding that relief rice should reach to all, regardless of their financial status.
The population of the Thangmeiband AC till January this year is 47,959 and all, whether they are NFSA beneficiaries or not, are entitled to get their share of rice for three months starting from April in view of the lockdown, he said.
Non-distribution of rice when the people are facing a hard time is very unfortunate, the co-convenor continued while casting doubt whether the Director of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution is linked with the matter in any manner as the latter has failed to provide the details of quantities of rice being lifted for distribution to the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) despite the direction of the CAF&PD Commissioner.
The local MLA and the private secretary should not take the people as fools and mislead in this regard, he said.
While demanding that the concerned DC and DSOs should ensure lifted rice reach to all beneficiaries, Meghachandra said that those in need may get the rice and those who do not want may leave it.
He continued that the there is no role of local MLA and private secretaries in the orders issued by Chief Secretary in connection with Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana and warned that the matter will be apprised to the Prime Minister, BJP National President, Union Home Minister as well as to the Chairman of the Disaster Management Authority if the NFSA rice for the month of March is not distributed within three days.
