Imphal, September 04 2011:
Works Minister K Ranjit has stated that granting district status to Sadar Hills in the interest of a single community has the potential to spark off a disastrous communal conflict.
Speaking at a political conference held today at Mayang Imphal Bengoon under the aegis of Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee, Ranjit said that the uncompromising stands adopted by different communities to safeguard their geographical areas have multiplied the complexities of the existing issues.
Pointing out that Manipur is not an exclusive land for any single community, Ranjit asserted that it would be wrong for a community to claim any area as their exclusive domain.
Exuding confidence that the Congress party would remain in power after the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, due in February next year, Ranjit said that there is no political party other than Congress which can form Government in Manipur.
A sum of Rs eight crores has been earmarked for development of Mayang Imphal road during
2011-12 .
He further assured that the necessary amount would be incorporated in the State budget for black-topping Mayang Imphal Bengoon roads.
MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar sought attention of the works Minister to announce a package for development of Mayang Imphal Bengoon roads.
The election campaign committee formed under the Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee has set specific targets of taking up water supply schemes at the cost Rs 23/24 crores each, construction of district hospital at Mayang Imphal and also ensure power connection to each household of Mayang Imphal AC.
