ECI chief to arrive today

To take a first hand account of the preparation being made for the Manipur Legislative Assembly elections in February next year, an official team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Chief Election Commissioner Dr SY Kuraishi is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow on a two-day visit.
Other team members of the Commission would include two Election Commissioners, namely, VS Sampath and HS Brahma, Deputy Election Commissioners JP Prakash and Dr Alok Shukla and Director General in-charge of Election Expenditure DK Das.
Upon their arrival at Tulihal Airport by an Air India flight at 10.35 am tomorrow, the ECI team would convene a joint meeting with the representatives of various political parties at the conference hall of Old Secretariat to discuss the issues related to the up-coming election to the State Assembly.
During the meeting, the visiting ECI team would also review the preparation being made by the District Election Officers/Deputy Commissioners of the districts concerned in connection with the election.
Later on, the ECI team would hold separate meetings with the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP.
After the visiting ECI team left Imphal, the Commission is likely to take a definite decision on measures to be taken up with regard to the State Assembly election.
