UNC bans entry of MLA Ibomcha in Naga areas MLA told to withdraw FIR, apologise

Imphal, March 03 2016: Taking serious note of the FIRs filed against Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang for his comments during the Lui-Ngai-Ni festival at Ukhrul as well as against leaders of the Naga Students' Federation (NSF), the United Naga Council (UNC) has decided to ban the entry of Keishamthong AC MLA L Ibomcha at Naga inhabited areas, until and unless he withdraws the FIRs and apologises.

In a statement, UNC said if anything untoward happens to Naga leaders including TR Zeliang and leaders of NSF, then L Ibomcha and the Government of Manipur will be held responsible.

UNC also reaffirmed its decision to ban the entry of all Naga tribal MLAs in Naga areas until they resign from the membership of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for their utter failure to protect the rights and interests of the tribals inside and outside the House.

Expressing serious concern for the Nagas in Manipur during the post Lui-Ngai-Ni period, the UNC said that the suppression of the tribals is a continuing process of the Government of Manipur and cited a number of examples as grim reminders.

To underline its point, UNC recalled the ban imposed on the entry of Th Muivah to his birth place on May 6, 2010 and the killing of two students at Mao gate by police personnel.

Hundreds of civilians were also injured, said UNC.

The ban on the entry of NSF delegation to Oinam village, Senapati district on May 3, 2010 is another instance cited by the UNC.

The NSF delegation was on its way to Oinam village for the preparation of its Federal Assembly, claimed UNC.

Furthermore, the Government of Manipur banned the entry of the then Chief Minister of Nagaland, Nephiu Rio to Senapati on May 28, 2011.Rio was on his way to Senapati district headquarters to launch the NPF party, it contended.

The State security forces also killed two youths at Ukhrul town on August 30, 2014, while staging a peaceful rally, said UNC and added that nine people were killed at Churachandpur while protesting the three 'anti-tribal' Bills on August 31 and September 1, 2015 .

Again Manipur police commandos indiscriminately opened fire during a Christmas celebration and seriously injured four persons at K Somrei village of Senapati district on December 27, 2015, said UNC further.

The police also threatened UNC president Gaidon Kamei and his team while returning from K Somrei village on January 4 this year, added UNC.

Moreover NSF officials who were travelling to Ukhrul district headquarters to take part in the Lui-Ngai-Ni festival were stopped and harassed by police commandos on February 14 this year, charged UNC.

Pointing to all these instances, UNC said that there is no hope for the tribals in Manipur and added that peaceful parting will be the only solution and urged all Naga citizens and tribal people to remain alert and to be prepared for any eventuality.
