Imphal, August 01 2011:
All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation (AMSGO) has demanded that the proposed State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) should be conducted in accordance with the norms of Central Teacher Eligibility Test and give 5 percent mark relaxation to SC and ST candidates.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its office here today, working president of AMSGO N Chaoba Singh pointed out that in accordance with the Central norms, 5 percent mark relaxation is given to SC/ST/Disabled candidates but such relaxations have not been considered in the notification issued by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur for the proposed State Teacher Eligibility Test.
This would amount to deprivation of benefits and forfeiture of the facilities of the SC/ST/Disabled communities in the State Teacher Eligibility Test.
Further, pointing out that the notification issued by the Board secretary on July 23 also did not have any order number or reference number, Chaoba demanded to know whether the said notification had been issued with the permission of the State Cabinet or the Chief Minister.
Former Minister RV Mingthing, who was also present during the press conference, observed that everyone in Manipur should think themselves as belonging to one community and fight together as one considering any important issue as an issue for all the people of Manipur.
If no relaxation is given for the SC/ST/ Disabled candidates, there may be conflict among the people of Manipur, he contended.
