Imphal, November 30 2014 :
Prior to the World Aids Day observation (December 1), MNP+ president Leimapokpam Deepak, during an interactive session at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai today said the observation of World Aids Day in the State would have acquired a different scope had the State Ministers/MLAs shown more concern on the HIV/AIDS issue.
The targeted intervention programme of HIV/AIDS alone could not solve the problem of the disease, MNP+ president added.
Inorder to achieve the desired rate of reduction in the figure of HIV/AIDS victims, the State must adopt different ways and initiate innovative projects.
He further emphasised the need of having HIV/AIDS treatment machinery adding that the device, if installed in the State, would largely benefit HIV/AIDS patients.
On the varied ways adopted by different States for prevention of HIV/AIDS, Deepak said every State has a different living standard and therefore the ways of transmission of the disease vary.
The schemes/measures adopted in one State might not work in another other State and vice versa.
According to Manipur AIDS Control Society, the figure of drug users in the State has decreased considerably, however, added Deepak, the figure of death by HIV/AIDS still exceeds the total number of deaths in accident and in fake encounters.
As such, the intervention of MLAs and Minister, he believes in crucial in the fight against the disease.
Highlighting the need to set up a red light area in the State, and the importance of spreading awareness to the masses, Deepak said the issue of HIV/AIDS could be handled more efficiently if the State would fill up the vacant positions in Manipur State AIDS Control Society.
