Shyamkumar disqualification case : Speaker's Tribunal seeks four weeks from SC

Representing the Manipur Legis- lative Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker's Tribunal has appealed to the Supreme Court to give four weeks time for announcement of its verdict regarding the dis-qualification case of MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar.
Th Shyamkumar was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Andro AC on Congress tic-ket but he switched alle- giance to BJP as soon as election results were declared and he went on to become a Minister in the BJP-led coalition Government.

The final hearing of his disqualification case was done on February 4 at the Speaker's Tribunal.
Since then, the judgement has been kept reserved.
As many as 15 petitioners petitioned the Speaker's Tribunal to disqualify Th Shyamkumar from being a Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly under the anti-defection law.
The matter finally reached the Supreme Court after a series of proceedings.
Subsequently, the apex Court asked the Speaker's Tribunal on January 21 to take a concrete decision on the disqualification case within four weeks.
In accordance to the Supreme Court's directive, the Speaker's Tribunal conducted final hearing of the disqualification case of Th Shyamkumar on February 4 .
A copy of the Supreme Court's directive was handed over to the Speaker's Tribunal directly on January 25 by the apex Court's senior advocate SG Hasnain who is also a counsel of petitioners MLA K Meghachandra and MLA Md Fazur Rahim.
After the final hearing was held on February 4, the Speaker's Tribunal informed both the parties they may submit additional documents and written arguments by February 12 .
On February 18, the counsel of the Speaker's Tribunal representing the Assembly Secretariat submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court seeking four weeks time before the verdict of Shyamkumar's disqualification case is announced.
The appeal cited the State Assembly session which was going on then for seeking additional period.
Meanwhile, it is reported that petitioners K Meghachandra and Md Fazur Rahim have decided to file objection petition at the Supreme Court on March 2 against the appeal of the Speaker's Tribunal which sought four weeks time before the final verdict of Th Shyamkumar's disqualification case is announced.
