Imphal, August 27 2015:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the people of the State to continue peaceful and democratic forms of agitation until a new Bill similar to ILPS is passed by the State Assembly.
In a statement issued by its assistant media co-ordinator Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum, JCILPS said that demographic experts had clearly predicted that indigenous people would be outnumbered by non-locals soon if the influx of non-locals into the State is not checked in time.
People of Manipur have demonstrated the significance of their collective voice in a democratic country through different forms of mass pro-ILPS agitation, JCILPS said.
As a result of the people's sustained struggle, JCILPS on behalf of the people of Manipur had inked a historic agreement with the State Government regarding implementation of a new ILPS Bill in the intervening night of August 25 and 26 .
To pave way for the fulfilment of the people's aspiration, the State Government has agreed to pass three Bills - The Protection of Manipur People's Bill 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reformation (7th Amendment Bill 2015) and Manipur Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 - during a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to be held on August 28 and August 31, JCILPS said.
Although, the State Government has agreed to pass these three Bills, people still need to closely monitor the Government's moves, JCILPS observed.
As such, people must carry on the ongoing pro-ILPS stir in a peaceful and democratic manner.
People would always thank and support the Government if they act according to the wish of the people.
However, the Government must not forget that they may witness different forms of unwanted incidents of they go against the aspiration of the masses, JCILPS cautioned.
The joint committee also urged the people to submit the names and details of the people who were injured and jailed during the mass movement so that the committee may maintain a record for future use.
