Imphal, April 20 2015 :
As an-nounced earlier, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) is all set to form human chains around various Mission schools of Imphal from tomorrow (April 22) in its attempt to protect the schools and the academic career of thousands of students and bring in conducive atmosphere.
Sanasam Subhachandra, president AMSU, while addressing media persons at its head office today, said that the academic career of many students is affected by the closure of Catholic schools in Imphal for the last many days by an underground group.
AMSU had decided to form human chains around the Catholic schools if the pleas to lift the ban on the schools are not heeded and the ban is not lifted by April 21 .
The president said that the demand made by the UG group may be considered ge-nuine had the same demand been made to all schools, that too before the beginning of the sessions.
Asserting that AMSU decided to form human chains without any ulterior motive, the AMSU president said that it was only in the interest of the academic career of the students which has been put in peril that such a step is being taken.
"We do not aim to target any particular group/individuals or serve vested interest by taking such a decision," he said while adding that they are only showing concern to the well being and betterment of the students.
Although the students' body had appealed to the group concerned for a negotiation on the matter, they failed to respond positively till date, he said.
He also said that all the guardians should support the steps taken up by the guardians of Mission school stu- dents.
He further appealed to the UG group concerned to review their demand consi- dering the academic well being of the students.
