Judicial officers' conference starts

Supreme Court Judge Justice TS Thakur today inaugurated a two-day Eastern Zone Judicial Officers' conference under the theme, 'Justice Delivery Mechanism - Role of Judges' at the conference hall of Manipur High Court today.
The conference is jointly hosted by High Court of Manipur and Manipur Judiciary Academy.
The inauguration function was attended by Justice TS Thakur as the chief guest and Supreme Court Judge Justice Anil R Dave as the president.
High Court of Manipur Chief Justice Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra and High Court Judge Justice N Kotiswar Singh also attended the function as guests of honour.
Judges from all the North East States, Orissa and Jharkhand also took part in the conference.

In his speech, Justice TS Thakur said that legal profession requires honesty and patience.
Justice Thakur said that India needs a strong judicial system considering the size of the population.
Like other professions, there is indication of presence of some corrupt lawyers, however, they will not be able to dilute the Indian judiciary system so long as the Judges are upright, he added.
This fact is even acknowledged by the western countries although they consider that Indian justice delivery system is not fast.
He said that Judges deliver justice with great sacrifice and honesty as judiciary system is not just a workplace from where they earn livelihood.
Judges and judiciary system earn respect from the people through justice delivered, he added.
Saying that honesty is the basic quality everybody in the judiciary system must possess, Justice Thakur said that honest people are courageous.
Later in the afternoon, Gauhati High Court Judge Justice Hrishikesh Roy spoke as resource person on the topic, 'Judicial Ethics, Conduct, Accountability and Relationship with Lawyers and Litigants' .
