Imphal, September 19 2014 :
Although Thumbuthong bridge has been serving as an alternative major route to connect Imphal East and Imphal West ever since Sanjenthong was closed down some months back, the State Government is yet to revamp the connecting roads giving lots of inconveniences to the general public and people residing on both the sides of the road.
Peeved with the State Government's lackadaisical attitude, local residents have cautioned that they might take the decision to block traffic if the road is not repaired at the earliest.
They said that following constant complaints to Works Minister Kh Ratankumar, local MLA E Chand and other officials, revamping of the road commenced a few weeks back but stopped again.
The road is bad beyond words, local residents said and that it is too slushy and muddy on rainy days and dusty on sunny days posing serious threat to the health of the local residents.

The worst portion is from Advanced Hospital, Palace Compound to Thumbuthong via Bamon Leikai, they said and added that the road is so narrow that there is no place to walk for pedestrians during rush hours.
Due to innumerable potholes, road mishaps are happening every now and then, they added.
Members of Dharmalaya Social Welfare Centre, Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai and people of other localities had put forward the matter to the Government on a number of occasions, but nothing has been done so far, they added.
They said that the road would not be repaired at all if traffic over Sanjenthong bridge is restored.
However, the Government must understand that the road serves as a major route from time to time whenever an event is held at Hapta Kangjeibung and nearby localities.
