MDS scam: Court allows CBI to retain documents

CBI has been allowed to retain the documents/articles which were seized during the raids in connection with the Rs 186 crore MDS Scam, by the Special Court, CBI, Imphal West today.
Following an application filed by CBI before the Court praying for permission to retain some of the documents/articles which were seized during the raids at nine different locations, including the private residence and official quarters of ex Chief Minister O Ibobi last year, the Court allowed the prayer, with specific instruction to produce the documents before the Court as and when required or directed.
Mention may be made that on November 23 last year, CBI raided the Thoubal residence of Okram Ibobi and his official quarters at Babupara, former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore's quarters and his Ninthoukhong residence, MDS former Project Director Yambem Ningthem's Mantripukri residence and the residence of MDS Administrative Officer S Ranjit Singh.
The raid was also conducted simultaneously at the former Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga's residence at Aizawl and former Chief Secretary DS Poonia's Gurgaon residence.
The raid came after CBI took over the case in October last year, after taking necessary permission from the State Government.
