Woman succumbs to bullet injury

Wife of a restaurant owner, who was hospitalised after she was shot at by unidentified miscreants last month, succumbed to her injuries at RIMS hospital today.
She was initially admitted to a private hospital and was discharged later.
The woman was however admitted to RIMS yesterday following complicacy.
Meanwhile, family members lodged a complaint at Imphal PS alleging that the victim succumbed due to negligence on the part of doctors and management of the private hospital where she was treated.
The family also demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
Laishram (O) Romita (40) w/o Senapati of Khurai Angom Leikai was admitted to a private hospital after she was shot at by unidentified miscreants inside a restaurant owned by her husband at Laiching Chingkhong on Feb 19.She succumbed to her injuries at RIMS hospital today morning around 4.30.
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, brother-in-law of the deceased woman, Laishram Somikanta said that he lost his sister-in-law due to alleged negligence on the part of doctors and management of the private hospital where she was treated.
He said that his sister-in-law was taken to the private hospital at around 12.30 noon on the day she was shot at by unidentified miscreants on Feb 19.However, doctors took longer time than expected in conducting investigation.
Investigation was conducted by the doctors till 4.30 pm of the day.
As per the advice of the doctors, a keyhole surgery was performed on his sister-in-law on Feb 19 at around 4.30 pm.
She received bullet injury on her abdomen.
However, due to a complication, an open surgery was performed again on Feb 20 at around 10 am, he said.
The wound was re-stitched after three days due to infection, Somikanta said.
She was discharged on March 9 with an advice to come back for check up after ten days.
However, she was taken to RIMS hospital yesterday morning after she complained of pain in the abdomen.
6 units of blood were transfused after she vomited blood yesterday.
She succumbed today morning around 4.30.Somikanta questioned why the doctors at the private hospital took longer time in conducting investigation on the day she was taken to the hospital.
He further questioned the motive of the doctors who conducted surgery twice after saying that she would be okay with a keyhole surgery.
He said that a report was submitted to Imphal PS demanding fitting action against the private hospital.
The body is still kept at JNIMS morgue.
The deceased Romita is survived by her husband, a son and a daughter.
Saying that the family will not claim the body until fitting action is taken up against the hospital, Somikanta said a public meeting will be held in this regard tomorrow.
It may be mentioned that two others�a school van driver and a girl, were also injured when the gunmen opened gun fire inside the restaurant on Feb 19 .
